As with most artists, I find there is a piece of myself expressed in each artwork I create.  I’m attracted to colors interacting, the way light dances across surfaces, as well as the emotions a subject generates.  The challenge of learning something new lures me into looking for unusual subjects, or an unusual way to express what I feel.  For me the Covid threat limits traveling and getting together with others.  So, I began looking for subjects closer to my home here on the peninsula.  Turning to nature for inspiration, I found amazing subjects by looking out the window, in my garden, and up the road.

Allyne Lawson was born in San Francisco California, but grew up in the Pacific Northwest (Lynnwood-Edmonds).  As an adult she moved back to California when her husband’s job required the move.  She received a B.A. degree and teaching credentials in Visual Arts, graduating Magna Cum Laude from California State University Northridge.  While living in southern California, she spent over 20 years working as a visual arts instructor.  First teaching K-3, then high school (9-12) drawing, painting, design, and Advanced Placement classes.  Each summer Allyne would visit her mother in Sequim and fell in love with its beauty.  So, she and her husband retired here in 2015.  Since retiring, Allyne has been able to dedicate more hours to her passion for watercolor painting.
